Final Friday Death Cafe
Death belongs to everyone, not just morticians, religions, death doulas, or grief counselors. This is not a support group or an informational event, this is an opportunity to have an open and honest conversation about our feelings and beliefs about death without anyone telling you those feelings are wrong or how to fix them.
Death Cafes are always offered:
– On a not for profit basis
– In an accessible, respectful and confidential space
– With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action
– Alongside refreshing drinks and food
Death Cafes are non-hierarchical and not a support group. There are facilitators but they do not lead or guide the conversation. They help facilitate the conversation and keep everyone to these guidelines:
- What is shared here is confidential. If you share a story with someone from Death Café you should not share their name or identifying information without their permission.
- No promotion of products or services. There is nothing that you can buy that will change the fact that we’re all mortal. No miracle cures, funeral home promotion, or attempts at religious conversion are welcome in this space.
- Be respectful. Do not offer advice or try to change people’s minds. Differing views are welcome, this is not a space for debate.
- Share the air. Allow everyone to speak. If you are feeling comfortable joining in the conversation, look around and see if anyone is struggling to break in or hasn’t gotten a chance to speak and make room for them.
- Lastly, No cross talk, if you don’t want to participate in the table’s discussion then it’s okay to just listen, but do not carry on a different discussion.
