Kennedy Institute of Ethics

Founded in 1971 with the support of Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy and Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., the 

 Kennedy Institute of Ethics is a center for practically engaged ethics at Georgetown University. With a founding interest in medical ethics, it is one of the oldest academic ethics centers in the world. The Institute sponsors research in areas such as health policy, genetic ethics, reproductive rights, death and dying and environmental justice, and is host to a world-renowned research library and a state-of-the-art Ethics Lab. The Kennedy Institute also offers a free online course, Introduction to Bioethics and publishes two journals, Kennedy Institute Ethics Journals and Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics.

The Hastings Center

Headquartered in Garrison, New York, the Hastings Center is a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank comprised of experts from multiple disciplines, including philosophy, law, political science, health science  and education. Founded by philosopher Daniel Callahan and psychoanalyst Willard Gaylin, it is the oldest independent interdisciplinary research institute of its kind worldwide. Its research publications span multiple fields of inquiry, including health, science and technology with the goal of informing public policy and public understanding of bioethics and its applications in the real world. You can read its publications, including case studies, special reports, and reports from the Bioethics Forum on the Hastings Center website at no charge.

NYU Langone Department of Population Health/Division of Medical Ethics

Founded by bioethicist Arthur L. Caplan in 2012, the NYU Division of Medical Ethics is part of NYU Langone’s Department of Population Health. With a concentration on medical ethics and biotechnology, the organization works to address the moral and practical issues that exist in healthcare today. such as ethical treatment of patients, access to investigational medicines, transplant ethics, end-of-life care and scarce-resource rationing. The division offers educational opportunities through a visiting scholar program, and internships for high school and college students as well as a number of public events held throughout the year.
