Trying to hold onto the world as it was before is the stage of denial. His lyrics, “Pools of sorrow waves of joy, are drifting through my open mind”, can be viewed as how the stages of grief overcome one as the shock of loss takes hold. The stages, or tasks, of grief are: denial, anger, bargaining, depression & acceptance.
With such a global love of the song “Across the Universe”, it’s truly a memorial song that speaks to everyone. The lyrics are a profound message of sadness and a lyrical way of coping with the death of a loved one.
